When we were searching for a way to celebrate the publication of the fiftieth issue of Hiše magazine, we decided to select the most beautiful houses that we had published since 2005, similar to how we commemorated the fifth anniversary of our magazine. Back then (in Hiše 26, April 2005) we presented “Contemporary Slovene Housing” — houses, apartment buildings and apartments. Now we are showcasing houses from various continents.
These houses are timeless, contemporary and attractive and have made an impact on our surroundings and ourselves. They have also challenged our existing living patterns, catching the wind of the future. MORE…

Award-winning architects have come up with an extraordinary design for a new self-sufficient city made up of organic ‘hill’ buildings. The cluster of green towers are designed to be home to 77,000 people and also house offices, shops and schools. Architects MVRDV came up with the revolutionary plans in which every floor of each tower is fringed with lush box hedges.

It is hoped this will improve ventilation and reduce energy and water consumption in the eco-friendly city called Gwanggyo. The amazing new city, seen in these visuals, to be built 20 miles south of Seoul in South Korea, is expected to be completed in 2011.

For one of the most extensive and important collections of modern art – the Brandhorst Collection, which is part of the distinctively organized Udo and Anette Brandhorst Foundation the Bavarian state government has commissioned the construction of a museum in Munich. On an area adjacent to the Pinakothek der Moderne, the winners of the contest in December 2002, Sauerbruch Hutton Architects, will be erecting a three-story, well-defined structure containing approximately 3200 square meters of exhibition space that will open to the north side of Munich’s museum complex.

With its lightness, inner logic and natural elegance, the design corresponds to the profile of the collection, which combines private passion with high museological standards.
The spatial concept of the architecture, which will take daylight closely into account, was developed in close cooperation with the architects. This will guarantee an optimal presentation of the art works.

Architect Joshua Prince-Ramus of Ramus-Ella Architects (REX) created the holiday attraction of the Calvin Klein store on 5th Avenue in New York.
The installation was created with Calvin Klein’s consumer image in mind. The stylish installation covers 4 complete floors, with a landscaped rooftop, and was constructed of acrylic sheet, steel, and stretch Spandex.

“By treating a New York street like landscape –and Calvin Klein’s storefront like a New York street –we created a detached single-family (doll)house in Manhattan for the Calvin Klein woman,” said architect Prince-Ramus.
The house is furnished with mini-versions of products from CK clothing, accessories and home collections including the furniture line that will launch in early 2009.

Designed especially for Tokyo Designers Week 2008 by MAT Studio & Elastik Architecture, KT: The Listening Room is an experiment in the acoustics of private space, with the intent of avoiding the city’s stimulating visuals.

MAT Studio & Elastik took inspiration from a previous assignment based on creative director Lou Weis’ research into Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder Cycle, in order to create a “secluded but extremely high quality listening experience” within a customised shipping container.

The KT listening room endeavours to create a personal audio experience in a private space. Inside the room is a circle of speakers that is focally oriented toward the listener’s sofa. This circle of speakers is formed by CNC-cut fiberboard panels and compressed polyester foam panels. The designers hoped to create a “spatial sensation that is in-between the notion of the concert hall and the iPod headphone.” The acoustic design of the room is based on principles of the soundproofing, reflectivity, rigidity and channelling of the reverberation.
