The winning proposal for the University Library and Campus in Zadar, Croatia, by Njiric+ architects, was newly announced by Architectural chamber of Croatia. Authors proposed a solution for Mediterranean campus with main public program that does not follow the orthogonal grid of faculty buildings but is freely positioned in the space.

Campus area differs from the common American models by creating dense interwoven space of faculty buildings, student dormitories, public buildings and landscape structures.

The library building is based on “erosion of public space” and “explosion of new technologies”- it is designed as series of ambients with access.

Term “Library = Market = Hotel = Shopping” shows the attitude of authors towards the autonomy of architecture, that is able to accept different needs and functions at different times and situations. Building is in this way only skin for diverse spaces that can also contain library functions. This concept allows transition from analog to digital library, from the library of accumulation towards the space of digital access. Through this idea, the real transition of the library programs towards 21.century is possible.
