Anđa Marić is the singer of Kisha project, which has just released their debut album called The Summer (A nyar). “To me at the beginning Kisha was something very private. A project we all did for our souls, for fun, letting go in a musical direction we never went before. The lyrics are deeply inspired by my grandma and her mother, my life during summers I spent in Hungary, at the same spot like Ady Endre (Hungarian poet) who’s lyrics I borrowed”, says Anđa.

“Making music in Hungarian language is weird. If you do it in Slovenia, it becomes even more exotic. Kisha brings back the best memories. The music from grandma’s radio hugs the room, while us kids, are eating plum dumplings and our feet don’t reach the floor,” singer Anđa Marić nostalgically remembers her childhood spent in Hungary.
The extravagant singer who founded Croatian rock band Flare 10 years ago, and busted the myth about out of tune singing models, introduced herself to Slovenia by collaborating with Dj Umek, Silence and Gušti. But her big unfulfilled wish was to sing in Hungarian, her mother tongue. With Kisha this wish became true: “Marco Grabber and I had a wish to make music with Janez Dovč, so we took him to a session in Marco’s house in Istra, where we enjoyed good food and wine and did music. For fun I sang a part on Hungarian which they liked a lot. I was so happy,” Anđa described the beginning of Kisha. The lyrics sing about the summers she spent at her grandmother in Hungary, first loves and mysterious night time seductions.

Kisha’s path seems naturally spontaneous. The trio became a large international band for the album and the first concerts. Kisha is Janez Dovč, Marco Grabber and Anđa Marić, Robi Pikl, Davor Klarič, Jani Hace, Igor Matkovič and Sergej Runjelovič – Runjoe. Completed by a butoh dancer Ryuzo Fukuhara on stage.
What’s next? They say they’re expecting new passengers, destination unknown. Sit on the train and go on a trip with them. “A Vonaton” (the Train) is waiting for you.
