The Szimpla has been running for eight years, first as a small café staging live performances of the whole spectrum and housing exhibitions of every kind. Soon becoming a cult spot in the cultural, social and night-life, the thing evolved into a network of similar places: the Szimpla Kert, the Szimpla Café & Dupla Restopub, the Szimpla Budapest Café (in Berlin, Germany) and the Szimpla (Sepsiszentgyörgy, Romania).
The thriving Szimpla Kert is the centre with its 1300 square metres of area always loaded with some sort of cultural event, either in the open-air cinema in the backyard, on the stage indoors or in the studio upstairs. Or people are simply lazing around in the garden café.
The complex is a mixture of a café&restaurant, a cultural centre and a late night entertainement hall, all housed into one loft building in the downtown, attracting thousands of visitors each day from all over Europe.
The Szimplas never charge entrance fee on cultural events, nor recieve support of any kind, hence their mere operation conveys the message, that it can be done well as well.
