plasche

“Plasche” is a bag with changeable plastic jackets. The core is sewn out of denim or terry cloth while the exterior is composed of different plastic bags. So you buy the inside once and enhance the outer look. Available in two sizes: 25×35 cm or 20×20 cm. The designer’s work is largely an ironic view on people using objects and giving them different stories and souls before throwing them away. Design: kubiquelle, Austria

Each day we find more innovative, eye-catching bags out there. They make for a great creative playground and a cheap but effective marketing tool. Some bag facts: polyethylene is cheaper and lighter than paper, which is why shopping bags are largely made of plastic. You can reuse them as either garbage bags, or recycle them along with other plastic containers. But sooner or later, these thin plastic creatures will take over the world. While most stores provide cheap, reusable shopping bags in an effort to cut down on costs and waste, many more out there don’t. The solution: take your own bag and transform it into a new, durable – ad flashy – one.

The formal and material transformations of different plastic bags lead to an upward-valuation of the short-lived plastic bag – and the result is a tightrope walk between luxury and trash. Handbag: The bin-liner is folded and held by four rubber bands. The bag is decorated with a jelly bean and can be reused as a bin-liner. Plastique, Austria
