DANCERS IN THE LIGHT
Il a pour toi, donné ordre ŕ ses Anges, de te garder en toutes tes voies Psaume 91
Angels Dancers Lovers …Demons. Light. Brightness. Wearing light. Lightwear. Artwear. Angelwear.

A dress with emotions. A handbag that glows – from inside. Light as a skirt, as flying shoes, and jewellery that glows.

Although light appears to us entirely self-evident, it possesses the great power to reveal the physical world around us – in contrast to the indefinable domain of darkness. Light itself, be it natural or artificial, is constantly pursued by the environment, by objects, flowers, animals, people; thoughts and feelings. Light is the core of life and being.
Arcadia.lightwear, in collaboration with architects, designers, fashion designers and artists, has created an art collection of light sculptures and clothing, presented at an exhibition in Ljubljana back in December 2006. Eleven artists have brought to life unique, inspiring interpretations as their answer to the theme-statement for the collection: Rules evoke Limits. No rules. No limits. Lightwear. The artists’ creative spaces were defined only by the human form-scale and a budget ceiling of € 1,000. Here, a sampling.

THE LUMINIA BAG
Thinking of new products has become my frustration and addiction. I thought immediately of my girlfriend, my mother, a friend, of all women who are always searching for something in their handbags. Wouldn’t it be nice if a light came on in their bags as soon as they opened them? Like in a refrigerator! So, not a light and a piece of clothing, but a light inside an accessory. What should a bag that can be turned on and off look like? How to reflect the story of a bag in its outside shape? A light and a bag.

“WEARLIGHT – LIGHTWEAR”
The “WEARLIGHT – LIGHTWEAR” collection of clothing can be read in different ways: a light can be a piece of clothing, or a light can wear a piece of clothing. Directly transferring a drawing of a light on silk by silkscreen printing, a light becomes clothing, and simultaneously, the new three-dimensional conically-shaped skirt is new apparel for a light.

AURA
The AURA exhibit is a light made up of small points of optic fibre. Their shape defines a coat which resembles a scene comprised of hills and valleys; is reminiscent of a woman’s body. Rotating colours in the generators convey an additional message of the mobility of the aura.

ELECTRODOLL
How can we wear light without putting it on? Electrodoll.
A knotted medium of electric current and light sources. Electrodoll is a knitted dress, made of micro-thin silver wire, placed in a translucent colourless plastic wrapping. The knots are made with a crochet technique, using a hook and a single thread. Small bulbs are distributed throughout the dress, which are welded on the wire and filled with a mixture of 25 % helium and 75 % neon, and which glow when electric current is run through them. Electrodoll is lightwear that doesn’t need anything or anyone to wear it.

BUTANAOGA
Lines and limits exist in order to be crossed. Always wearing the best footwear; with desire a must. Some girl lost her butanaoga. We found the lost shoe and asked Arcadia for a pair of light wings – so the girl could fly. Special footwear for special people.

HOTEL
The world of my everyday existence is a mix of various places.
A hotel is a positive metaphor for unsettled, dispersed existence, a safe harbour made up of a bed, a bathroom and breakfast. During a trip, a hotel represents home – while seen from home it signifies travel. Signs, words, convey information, point to locations and serve as helping spots. Without them, the world would be grey and difficult to decipher. The light sculpture Hotel is a story of all the cities that we have felt and would like to feel. It’s a story of memorable moments, my monument to longing.
