Mike and Maaike’s Baja bbq Firepack ID Product of the Week

The Baja bbq firepack is eco-friendly instant charcoal packaging, designed by the San Francisco-based Mike and Maaike design studio for design annex / Lazzari. This in response to the more than 45,000 tons of liquid fire-starting fuels used in the USA alone every year, and they also leave residues of toxic chemicals on the grilled food. But alternatives are few, often messy and difficult to use.The answer? The baja bbq firepack: charcoal packaging that lights instantly and burns away in the grill, which makes the grilliing expereince simple, clean and chemical-free. Made from 100% recycled biodegradable paper pulp, the package contains just over 1kg of natural lump charcoal and features an integrated chimney that creates perfect hot coals without chemicals or fluids. Coals are ready to cook in just 15-20 minutes.
The firepacks are currently available at better supermarkets.
This week ID magazine named the Baja bbq firepack their product of the week.
And Wallpaper Magazine named Mike and Maaike’s Mute Chair “best armchair” in their 2008 Design Awards issue.
Mike and Maaike is a joint-effort between Maaike Evers and Mike Simonian, and is a resource for experimental design, progressive ideas and unexpected solutions for products, furniture and environments.
