The strategic location and the topography of the site, the unexpected sight of the sea from all points of the area have given rise to the idea of setting up a compact, powerful, conceptually, all based on counterslope. A place compact and not scattered, so recognizable. A place where every house could have a terrace from which to admire the view over the gulf. A hill renewed and rediscovered, a new Gebel Zghir (small mountain). This project that we are presenting has won the first prize at Europan 10 competition in Rijeka, Croatia. more…

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb—the largest publicly funded cultural project since Croatian independence in 1991—has finally opened its doors in December. The opening marked the culmination of a frustratingly drawn-out process, with the decision to create a museum first being made in 1998. A new building, designed by Croatian architect Igor Franic, has been created to house the museum, which holds collections of Croatian and foreign works from the 1950s to the present. Despite the delay and budget cuts that accompanied building construction, the new museum is extensive, covering a total area of 15,000 sq. m. The ambitious project is the first museum to be built in Zagreb in 125 years. more…

The desire for efficiency of developers and contractors have handcuffed the Turkish housing typology into blocks with typically 4 units around a central core.  Despite its unarguable efficiency, the result consistently creates upto a third of the units to be compromised; without views, facing other units.  And eventhough generally the zoning laws allow only 25-50% of a given site to be developed, punctured by these indifferent towers, the left over green space is seldom identifiable.  more…

Windows are not used as usual show-cases, but as a perspective to guide the vision through exposed dresses all over the room. The space of the store was reorganized and clarified to understand structural elements. Simple walls, few columns and beams constitute architectural elements. This space shows a part of a larger research that Gonzalez and Haase are working on consisting in imperceptible changes in space that can modify behaviors. more…

aleksandar_georgiev_tresholl_d_4

Aleksandar Georgiev is interested in the sensation of sending and receiving pain. In his latest piece named THRESHOL(in process “D”) he is using the pain threshold and pain tolerance as resources for movement and as well as tools for creating different states and images within duration of the movement action. The intention is to play with perception of sending and receiving the inputs of physical touch/pain. He started from the opinion that we lose the possibilities of pure touch/pain after certain year of our life. As the time is passing and we receive more information we over do it. As this becomes a routine and our brain is just operating from memory without letting us feel it another way.
