The strategic location and the topography of the site, the unexpected sight of the sea from all points of the area have given rise to the idea of setting up a compact, powerful, conceptually, all based on counterslope. A place compact and not scattered, so recognizable. A place where every house could have a terrace from which to admire the view over the gulf. We are presenting the newly announced result of the architectural competition for kindergarten in Ribnica which is to be the biggest kindergarten in Slovenia. Gallery DESSA was formed in 1989 in order to establish a space for sharing and learning about different architectural ideas. After twenty years, the gallery organized 200 exhibitions in homeland and 72 abroad, adding to these more than 50 lectures on Slovenian architecture abroad and 38 professional field trips. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb—the largest publicly funded cultural project since Croatian independence in 1991—has finally opened its doors in December. The opening marked the culmination of a frustratingly drawn-out process, with the decision to create a museum first being made in 1998. A new building, designed by Croatian architect Igor Franic, has been created to house the museum, which holds collections of Croatian and foreign works from the 1950s to the present. Despite the delay and budget cuts that accompanied building construction, the new museum is extensive, covering a total area of 15,000 sq. m. The desire for efficiency of developers and contractors have handcuffed the Turkish housing typology into blocks with typically 4 units around a central core. Despite its unarguable efficiency, the result consistently creates upto a third of the units to be compromised; without views, facing other units. Pannon, the Hungarian mobile services unit of Telenor, designed by Budapest based office ZOBOKI-DEMETER és Társai Építésziroda, inaugurated a few weeks ago an environmentally-friendly headquarters on the outskirts of Budapest. Compared to a conventional building, the new headquarters will cut down on CO2 emissions equivalent to those generated by about 500 homes, making it one of Hungary’s “greenest” office buildings. more…

Arena Zagreb, in Croatia designed by Upi-2m, has won the Structural Design of Year Award at the prestigious World Architecture Festival Awards (WAF Awards) 2009. It was chosen by some of the world’s most distinguished architects and renowned industry experts. The judges praised the scheme for ‘its simple, elegant and efficient structural concept – the external inward leaning ribs or columns, braced by a ring beam, supported the suspended roof.’
Recently inaugurated 200 m² fashion store located in Kolonaki, Athens is situated in two floors with large windows proving an easy seethrough to the space. Windows are not used as usual show-cases, but as a perspective to guide the vision through exposed dresses all over the room. The space of the store was reorganized and clarified to understand structural elements. Simple walls, few columns and beams constitute architectural elements. This space shows a part of a larger research that Gonzalez and Haase are working on consisting in imperceptible changes in space that can modify behaviors. more…
The new public cemetery project of Szentendre by the Budapest based A4 Studio was selected as one of the winners of nearly 1,500 entries at this year’s World Architecture Festival in Barcelona. Competing against 15 entries, the Szentendre Cemetery project first won the „Competition Entries” category within the „Future Projects”. As a category winner, the project qualified for the final of all Future Projects where it was „highly commanded” right behind the winning plan by the Spanish Miralles Tagliabue Studio. more…
Aleksandar Georgiev is interested in the sensation of sending and receiving pain. In his latest piece named THRESHOL(in process “D”) he is using the pain threshold and pain tolerance as resources for movement and as well as tools for creating different states and images within duration of the movement action. The intention is to play with perception of sending and receiving the inputs of physical touch/pain. He started from the opinion that we lose the possibilities of pure touch/pain after certain year of our life. As the time is passing and we receive more information we over do it.
